Consultant Higher Courts Advocate [Crime]
Angus Mathieson is a consultant. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1987. In 1990 he realized that his vocation was advocacy and he went freelance as a solicitor specializing in criminal advocacy.
After ten years practicing in the lower courts he decided he needed to extend his practice to the higher courts. He became a Higher Courts Advocate in 1991.
He has been regularly instructed in jury trials in the Crown Court and appeals to the Court of Appeal [Criminal Division] since 1997 and has had considerable success. He has successfully defended clients in serious criminal trials, including robbery, burglary, drug trafficking, assaults and weapons offences. Angus is a dedicated and combative trial advocate and is passionate about getting the best possible result for his clients.
Clients appreciate his down to earth approach and his honesty when identifying the strengths and weaknesses of cases. His approach to trial preparation is meticulous and relies on a keen focus on the key issues in each case.
His good rapport with juries allows him to convey the essence of his client’s case even when the evidence is challenging.
Angus is also a duty solicitor and represents clients in the police station and in the Magistrates Court.
